The American Library Association's Reference section has compiled a list of online collections of primary sources that are available for free. They include the sources in their guide to evaluating websites for authenticity, which is quite useful itself. Some of the recommendations include the American Memory Project from the Library of Congress and The Scout Report.

Don't forget, as Tennessee residents, you have free access to the databases offered by TEL (The Tennessee Electronic Library). You can access them through the Pender Library Databases page, or go directly to TEL. It shouldn't ask you for a password, but if it does, type 'elvis'.
